Torquay 2-1 Shrewsbury

David Graham's sixth goal in six league games clinched a deserved victory for in-form Torquay over Shrewsbury.

The Scottish striker finished a jinking run with a 20-yard left-foot shot in the 77th minute.

Midfielder Jason Fowler had fired Torquay into an 18th-minute lead with another long-range shot.

But Shrewsbury equalised in the 53rd minute through skipper Nigel Jemson, who stabbed the ball home at the second attempt after Torquay failed to clear a Ryan Lowe corner.

But Torquay, now unbeaten in their last six games, piled on the pressure from then on.

After Ian Stevens missed a rare chance for Shrewsbury in the 66th minute, it was no surprise when Graham hit the winner.

Graham, Tony Bedeau and substitute Neil Prince all went close to a third goal in the closing stages.

Torquay: Dearden, Hankin, Woozley, Hazell, Holmes, Fowler, Hockley, Russell, Bedeau, Graham, Gritton. Subs: Attwell, Douglin, Stevens, Ashington, Prince.

Shrewsbury: Dunbavin, Moss, Atkins, Redmile, Thompson, Wilding, Jamie Tolley, Murray, Van Blerk, Jemson, Ian Stevens. Subs: Woan, Kendall, Lowe, Drysdale, Glenn Tolley.

Referee: P Crossley (Kent).
