Portsmouth 3-0 Bradford

Portsmouth bounced back from last week's first defeat of the season with an easy victory against Bradford.

Nigel Quashie scored twice and Vincent Pericard once as Pompey maintained their two-point lead at the top of the First Division.

Harry Redknapp's side - who went down 1-0 to Norwich - have now won all six of their home games this season.

Bradford had the first couple of efforts on goal in the game, Andy Gray and Paul Evans both trying their luck from distance.

And it was against the run of play when Quashie put the hosts ahead on 16 minutes.

Kevin Harper made a useful run down the wing and his cross was neatly laid off by Svetoslav Todorov to Quashie, who netted from the edge of the area.

Four minutes later Pompey scored again.

Paul Merson, playing in midfield, found Pericard with a long ball and the on-loan Juventus striker lashed home an unstoppable shot.

It was turning into a nightmare debut for Steve Banks in the Bradford goal.

The injury-ravaged Bantams were forced to turn to the on-loan Bolton man after Aidan Davison was injured in the midweek draw with Coventry.

Providing back-up on the bench was a familiar figure to the Fratton Park crowd, former Portsmouth keeper Dave Beasant who has signed on non-contract terms with Bradford.

Quashie, after a couple of near misses, did grab his second of the afternoon 12 minutes into the second half.

Merson found the former QPR man with a neat ball - and he made no mistake, prodding past Banks to put the game safe.
