Ahly do just enough
Mazembe pulled off a shock win over Ahly in Cairo in the first round.
TP Mazembe and Al Ahly were equal in Lubumbashi
African Champions League, Round 4

TP Mazembe 0-0 Al Ahly

Any chance of decent football was again ruined by the atrocious conditions in Lubumbashi on Saturday as the African Champions League title-holders Al Ahly kept alive their hopes in the competition.

The draw leaves the Cairo club three points off the top, but with a chance in the last two rounds of matches to claw their way into the top two and qualify for November's semi-finals.

Another bruising encounter at the Stade Kenya saw both sides battle with the conditions and the game only came alive in the final stages of the game.

Al Ahly came closest to breaking the deadlock when Ahmed Belal fired a speculative effort against the Mazembe crossbar 15 minutes from time.

Raja's gain

Immediately afterwards Ahly's Angolan international Gilberto had his close shot well saved by Makweni Mayala.

TP Mazembe's best effort came just after half-time when Mbomboko Ngoy's long range shot was tipped over the top by Al Ahly goalkeeper Essam Al Hadari, who was unusually shaky throughout the afternoon.

Saturday's result allows Raja Casablanca the chance to take over the group leadership if they win at home on Sunday against Jeanne d'Arc of Senegal.

The Moroccan side are the big favourites and should go two points clear, putting themselves within touching distance of the semi-final.

If Jeanne d'Arc can pull off an upset win then it will be to Al Ahly's advantage.
