The South Africa FA have announced that the successor to Jomo Sono will be a locally-appointed coach - who will work under a technical director.

But while the technical director will not be named for some time, Safa have confirmed the coach will be announced next Wednesday - and will be one of seven candidates for the post.

Trott Moloto: The man who Carlos Queiroz took over from in September 2000. Moloto was the coach in his own right for a two year period after the 1998 World Cup finals and then surprisingly stayed on as assistant to Queiroz and later Sono.

Ephraim Mashaba: The coach of the South African under-23 side that beat Brazil at the Sydney Olympics and twice before caretaker coach of 'Bafana Bafana.'

Gordon Igesund: The most successful club coach in recent times with three South African premier league titles in the last five seasons.

Pitso Mosimane: Former professional in Greece and Belgium, who took over as coach of SuperSport United last year and took them to second place in the premier league.

Khabo Zondo: One of the assistant coaches that Jomo Sono took to the World Cup finals and currently working at Durban premier league club Lamontville Golden Arrows.

Styles Phumo: Johannesburg-born former national coach of Lesotho and CAF coaching instructor. Now works at Ria Stars and was Moloto's assistant at the 2000 African Nations Cup finals in Ghana and Nigeria.

Boebie Williams: The coach of South Africa's under-20 and under-17 teams, who is a surprise inclusion in the list having had no senior experience.
