Uganda's SC Villa have reclaimed the Cecafa Club Championship title for the first time in 16 years. First-half substitute Vincent Tendwa scored the only goal with a strike 15 minutes from time. The Kenyan striker volleyed home with a shot that gave Simba's goalkeeper Juma Kaseja no chance. Villa could have taken the lead much earlier, but Ekotchu Kasongo wasted an opportunity in the 12th minute by hitting the woodwork. The Tanzanian side had chances of their own, with the industrious Steven Mapunda forcing a desperate save by Villa's goalkeeper Postnet Omwony. In the second half, both sides stepped up their game in search of a goal. Although Simba had more possession, Villa looked the more dangerous. After scoring, the home side threw everyone behind the ball and were content to boot the ball down the pitch to use up time. At the final whistle, Simba players closed in on the Sudanese referee, who had to be protected by the police. The win for Villa, their first Cecafa title since 1987, earns them $30,000, with Simba getting $20,000. In the third-place play-off, Burundi's Muzinga FC beat Ugandas Express FC 4-2 on penalties after the game ended goalless.
