To do that, both sides need to win their semi-finals. Ghana's Black Queens take on Cameroon on Tuesday, and the Falcons play South Africa on Wednesday. The Falcons and their fans are desperate to avenge last week's 1-0 loss to Ghana, which was a big blow to their confidence and saw them qualifying from the group in second place. That was a humiliation for Nigeria who, as well as being the dominant force in Africa for many years, are also playing on home soil.
Caf's local spokesperson in the venue city of Warri says the loss to Ghana should not be underestimated. "Fans thought their team should have won at any cost," said Aisha Falode. But she went on to explain that Nigerian supporters are confident they will be able to get their own back. "Unless a big upset happens in the semi-finals, the two teams are looking forward to meeting each other in the final," she said. People in Warri are already preparing for a third successive Nations Cup title for Nigeria. While fans respect the Ghanaians, they have no doubt that the Falcons will prevail in the final. The two finalists qualify for next years World Cup in China. |
