Egypt opt for youth
Saleh wants to build a team for the 2006 World Cup

Egypt manager Mohsen Saleh has said he is going to build his country's new team around young players.

"There will be no place for players who are over 30," he said.

According to Saleh, his ultimate ambition is to prepare a team that will qualify for the 2006 World Cup finals.

Saleh's new policy might have been designed to exclude Hossam Hassan, with whom he had an unpleasant period when he managed the national team seven years ago.

But team captain Hany Ramzy, who is 33, is likely to play an important part in his plans for the Egyptian team.

Saleh announced the squad that will face Madagascar in September's African Nations Cup qualifying match.

Saleh, who led Ismailia to win the national league last season, selected seven players from his former club but dropped established names like Hazem Emam, Yasser Radwan and Mohamed Emara.

While the country's European-based players are still in the manager's plans, Saleh said he will not recall them for the friendly matches against Ethiopia, Uganda, Sudan and Libya, to be played between 8 and 27 August.
