Scudamore had been widely tipped to take over from Crozier, who resigned as the FA's chief executive last week. But he said: "I have a job that suits me very well. I have to take into account family commitments and I am very happy with the job I have at the moment." However, while Scudamore was clear he would not be going for the post, Players' Football Association chief executive Gordon Taylor refused to rule himself out of the running. "At the moment, we are in a crisis. We need to have somebody to pull together all the different sections of the game," Taylor told BBC Radio Five Live. "It is a big job, and there is a need for a strong person. They would have to be able to get on with the key people inside football". And Taylor said he was not optimistic about England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson staying on in his post. Taylor said the resignation of Crozier, added to the loss of departures of England coach Steve McClaren and FA technical director Howard Wilkinson, could persuade Eriksson to step down as well. "Sven is very disappointed about Adam going, and of course he's recently lost Howard Wilkinson and his coach. "Sven is very vulnerable at the moment, I don't think he's in the best of moods. I'm not certain he will last the course". |
