England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson is to seek talks with Football Association chairman Geoff Thompson to clear the air after chief executive Adam Crozier's resignation.

Eriksson has been at the centre of renewed speculation about his future after the departure of Crozier, his closest FA ally, and coach Steve McClaren.

The Swede insists he will stay on despite the upheaval, but is still likely to clarify his position in his meeting with Thompson.

He said: "Obviously I was aware of what was going on but I have not spoken to the chairman since Adam left. Of course I need to do this."

McClaren denied he quit after a disagreement with Eriksson over his decision to leave Middlesbrough captain Gareth Southgate out of the draw against Macedonia.

And Eriksson said: "It's a pity that two people I have worked so well together with are leaving."

It has also been claimed that Crozier spoke with Eriksson for 90 minutes immediately after his resignation, urging the England coach to stay in his job.

Eriksson has pledged his immediate future to England, but is known to be concerned at Crozier's depature and the potentially unsettling effect it may have on his plans.
