Crozier receives sympathy
BBC Sport Online reviews what the papers have to say about Adam Crozier's departure from the Football Association.

The Sun (Shaun Custis)
'SILENCE OF THE SHAMS'
"Adam Crozier left Soho Square close to tears after resigning as chief executive of the FA.

"And only crocodile tears from the FA chairman Geoff Thompson, who could not be counted on when Crozier needed him most.

"Thompson is as spineless as his inaction has shown."

Daily Star (Brian Woolnough)
'AD BY BUNCH OF COWARDS'
"Stand up all the faceless, jealous men who have just kicked English football in the teeth.

"Go on, be brave enough to put your head above the parapet so the public can see just who you are."

Daily Mail (Steve Curry)
'CHAIRMAN LEFT WITH NO CHOICE'
"Just before 5pm - a favoured hour for the FA to release bad news - it was announced that Crozier was resigning from the most influential role in English football.

"While a glum FA chairman Geoff Thompson talked of his great regret at Crozier's demise before heading off, it was clear he recognised there was no alternative."

Daily Express (Harry Harris)
'CROZIER IS TOAST'
"Adam Crozier dramatically lost his FA chief executive job because he treated the Premier League with "contempt" for five months.

"One of the most powerful influences within the Premier League who wanted Crozier out, told me: 'We asked for a meeting with Crozier last May to sort out our differences. He never replied. He treated the Premier League with contempt and paid the price. He was an architect of his own misfortune.'"

The Daily Telegraph (Henry Winter)
'CROZIER PAYS A HEAVY PRICE'
"A brave man chose to walk away from the FA, but a coward remained.

"Adam Crozier resigned as chief executive, his innate tenacity eroded by the character assisination emanating from the professional clubs, while the craven refusal of Geoff Thompson to defend his organisation or his chief executive has patently undermined his fitness to govern.

"Many of the upper echelons of football want Thompson out now."

The Times (Matt Dickinson)
'FA BURIES HEAD IN THE SAND'
"Adam Crozier will be fine in time, but will English football?

"The game needs a strong FA to defend the national team, protect its traditions and to dispense fair discipline, but, instead it has a chairman who flew out of the country at the time that his chief executive was resigning.

"Geoff Thompson should have spent the afternoon visiting Sven-Goran Eriksson to reassure the England coach."
