Wash-out in Jamaica
Groundstaff at Sabina Park
The weather put paid to any action in Jamaica
The start of the one-day series between West Indies and India proved a big let-down with rain preventing any play at Sabina Park.

Umpires Eddie Nichols and Russell Tiffin took the decision early to enable groundstaff to begin mopping up operations with a view to the second game in the best-of-five series going ahead as scheduled on Sunday.

Forecasts for the area are not encouraging, however, and the two sides may face another frustrating day.

"The groundsman have been working hard over the last two days and had done a pretty good job but the heavy rain overnight left us with no option," Nichols said.

"We were hopeful of getting some play today, even if not the full 50 overs. Now we can only hope for some sunshine ahead of tomorrow's game."

The series offers India a chance to obtain a measure of revenge after losing the Test series 2-1.

Their squad has been strengthened by the arrival of batsman Virender Sehwag, who was unable to play in the Tests because of a shoulder injury.

And the tourists plan to give their younger players every chance to broaden their experience with the World Cup now less than a year away.

"It's hard to leave out guys like Dinesh Mongia, Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif after their recent success against England and Zimbabwe," Ganguly said.

"The youngsters bring a lot of energy to the side."

The West Indies have made two changes to their squad, bringing in seamer Corey Collymore for Adam Sanford and 26-year-old all-rounder Gareth Breese in place of Dinanath Ramnarine.

West Indies have considerably less one-day experience than their Indian counterparts but the psychological edge may be in their favour.
