India were comfortable winners over the West Indies in the fifth and final one-day international to claim a 2-1 series win.

The tourists won by 56 runs on the Duckworth/Lewis method after rain was again a factor at the Queen's Park Oval on Sunday.

India had set a tough target after half-centuries from skipper Sourav Ganguly and leading batsman Sachin Tendulkar saw them score 260 from their 50 overs.

Tendulkar, who was a doubt for the game with a shoulder problem, scored 65 from just 70 balls to win the man-of-the-match award.

Ganguly, who was named man-of-the-series, had helped get his side off to the perfect start with a solid 56.

Mervyn Dillon was the pick of the West Indian bowlers with 5-52 from his 10 overs, including the wickets of Ganguly and Tendulkar.

A rain delay saw the host side's victory target reduced to 248 from 44 overs, but the Windies response got off to a disastrous start when they lost both openers early on.

Chris Gayle was bowled by Zaheer Khan for three, while Wavell Hinds scored just two runs as the home side slumped to 12-2.

Brian Lara and Ramnaresh Sarwan put on 61 to get the Windies back on track, but three quick wickets saw them fall to 88-5.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul raised hopes of a fightback with an attacking 51 off 39 balls.

He combined with wicket-keeper Ridley Jacobs for 71 but the Windies could not recover and were finally bowled out for 191 in 36.2 overs.

Carl Hooper's side had levelled the series with victory in the fourth match in Trinidad on Saturday.

The first two one-day matches were washed out without a ball being bowled.

The Windies won the Test series between the two sides 2-1 with victory in the final Test.
