Blackwell chases Cup spot
Blackwell goes for a big hit against India
Blackwell's power could be a World Cup asset
England all-rounder Ian Blackwell hopes success in Australia can help him clinch a place in the World Cup squad.

Following the team's elimination from the Champions Trophy event in Sri Lanka, he will now head for Adelaide to work on his fitness with the England Academy squad.

At least this time I will not be answering the phones at Taunton in the winter

And he will be on the spot for a call-up when England take on Australia and Sri Lanka in the VB Series, which is slotted in around the Ashes Tests.

Blackwell hit 82 off 68 balls against India on Sunday, and also picked up the wicket of Virender Sehwag with his left-arm spin.

The 24-year-old admitted that he now saw a trip to the World Cup as a realistic possibility.

"I thought it came around a little too soon, but given a chance in this event, that is obviously an aim for me now," he said.

"Whether or not they (the selectors) see me as a player of the future, I don't know, but it's nice to make a good start.

"There are peoplelike Flintoff, Vaughan and Collingwood who have been out of the side for this tournament.

"Whether or not they will replace them with Cork, Shah and Blackwell, you do not know, but I hope we have given them a few headaches on team selection."

Blackwell lost three litres of body fluids during his innings and had to receive re-hydration treatment before taking the field, but is happy with his general condition, despite weighing in at around 17st.

"My fitness has been a concern for a few people," he conceded.

"The perception is of someone who is very red (in the face). But I am quite a good runner between the wickets, and my stamina is quite good."
