India and Sri Lanka shared the ICC Champions Trophy after rain again washed out the final in Colombo.

The first attempt at staging the match was abandoned on Sunday, two overs into the second innings.

And just seven more overs were available the following day before a thunderstorm again brought the players off.

India could claim a slight advantage, after Sri Lanka again struggled to post a competitive total, reaching 222 for seven thanks to half-centuries from Mahela Jayawardene and Russel Arnold.

And the visitors had reached 38 for one by the time the heavens opened.

Virender Sehwag was 25 not out and Sachin Tendulkar, who survived a close lbw appeal by Chaminda Vaas first ball, unbeaten on seven.

Sri Lanka's single wicket was that of Dinesh Mongia, top-edging an attempted pull off Vaas high to midwicket in the third over.

The rain eased off but never stopped and, with India needing to bat a further 16 overs for a result to be valid, the umpires had little option but to abandon.

The visitors took four wickets early on and then employed their spinners to keep things tight, although the hosts at least managed 70 runs in the last 10 overs.

Opener partner Kumar Sangakkara was lucky to survive the over too, as Mongia put down a difficult chance at second slip.

But the fielder made amends with a low take in the eighth over to dismiss Marvan Atapattu for 10.

Aravinda de Silva appeared determined to make the most of what is likely to be his final innings on home soil - at the second attempt - smashing 23 runs from a single Agit Agarkar over.

But his belligerence was short-lived as he misjudged the top-spin of Anil Kumble - back after missing Sunday's match - and lofted a simple catch to midwicket.

And Sangakkara was run out for 26 by partner Jayawardene, who changed his mind over a single to mid-on as Mongia fielded sharply.

Arnold and Jayawardene put on 118 for the fifth wicket , but the alliance occupied 29 valuable overs.

Zaheer accounted for before Jayawardene for 77 and Vaas - who smashed 17 from 10 balls - both caught in the deep for figures of three for 44.

Arnold's apparent attempts to run on the pitch had earlier caused a confrontation with Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly that umpire David Shepherd was forced to spilt up.

And Shepherd was called into action again when a dog ran onto the field late in the home side's innings, the English official jokingly brandishing a red card.
