Leg-spinner Mithali Raj cleaned up the tail, with figures of three wickets for just four runs in 19 balls, to take the player of the match award.

Captain Clare Connor led a doomed rearguard action and was last out for 15 from 49 balls.

Batting first for the first time in the series, having lost the toss and been put in, India had Mamtha Maben to thank for their challenging total.

The home side were 54 for three in the 24th over when captain Anjum Chopra was run out by England vice-captain Clare Taylor.

But Maben and Mithali began to up the rate.

And Arundhati Kirkire joined Maben to crash 83 in ten overs for the fifth wicket.

Kirkire's 34 came from 36 deliveries with four fours, while Maben was left 56 not out from 86 balls.
