After a county debut in 1996, Harmison has been dogged back, knee and shin injuries but he remains one of the brightest pace prospects in the country.

The Durham bowler was selected on the England A tour to Zimbabwe and South Africa in 1998-99.

But a knee problem forced him to miss the tour to Bangladesh and New Zealand a year later and sore shins saw him miss out on a trip to the West Indies in 2000-1.

In between, though, he was selected in the squad for England's home Test series against Zimbabwe in 2000, impressing with his raw pace but passed over because of pitch conditions.

And an impressive winter with England's Academy gained him a second chance at Test selection, despite a mediocre season so far in which he has been troubled by a side strain.
