John Crawley's Test career seemed to have stalled on 29 caps after a disappointing Ashes tour in 1998/99. He accumulated 1,329 runs at 31.64 in those Tests, including three hundreds and a highest score of 156 not out against Sri Lanka. But he has never been able to cement his place in the side on a regular basis. And off-season move from Lancashire to Hampshire paid instant dividends, though, with 272 on his Hampshire debut, and an average of over 100 after the first three Championship games gaining him an England recall. He hit 31 and 41 in the first Test draw with Sri Lanka at Lord's but lost his spot as England changed the balance of the side. But Crawley remains first reserve, called into the squad as cover for Mark Butcher in the third Test and coming in for the injured Marcus Trescothick to take on India. | Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
