England's injury problems continue with two members of the Academy squad certain to miss the first half of the winter programme.

Warwickshire batsman Jim Troughton (shin) and teammate Graeme Wagg (back) are suffering from stress fractures and will not be travelling to Adelaide with the rest of the squad next month.

Assistant coach John Abrahams told BBC Sport Online that both would be assessed over the Christmas period in the hope that they could join the squad in the New Year.

The second half of the programme also includes a trip to Sri Lanka.

Troughton has been in prolific form this summer, scoring 1,052 Championship runs at an average of over 55, including three centuries.

The left-hander also made 37 off 33 balls in Warwickshire's B&H Cup final win over Essex and shared a stand of 84 with Ian Bell, who is also now suffering from a stress fracture of the back and is taking the entire winter off to recuperate.

All-rounder Wagg, 19, is the youngest member of the Academy squad.

He has taken 12 wickets in four Championship appearances and also averaged 28.,40 with the bat.

England's senior squad, meanwhile, has a number of injury concerns ahead of the Ashes series.

Darren Gough and Michael Vaughan (knee), Andrew Flintoff (hernia) and Simon Jones (side) will all have to pass fitness tests before the party leaves for Australia.
