| Tudor back with Academy ![]() Together again: Academy coach Rod Marsh and Tudor Alex Tudor faces another winter of conditioning work at the Academy in Adelaide after being overlooked by England's selectors for the Ashes series. Tudor played two Tests in the recent home series against India but chairman of selectors David Graveney said there were still doubts about his "strength and stamina". The Surrey fast bowler is one of two players with Test experience in the Academy squad, the other is Nottinghamshire wicket-keeper Chris Read. "It is every player's dream to tour Australia and I had hoped to retain my place in the England squad. "However I am still only 24 and hope that if I continue to work hard on my game I can still fulfil my dream," Tudor commented.
Hampshire seam bowler Chris Tremlett and Glamorgan wicket-keeper Mark Wallace, like Tudor, will be spending a second winter at the Academy, but there will be no return for highly-rated Warwickshire batsman Ian Bell. "He has a stress fracture of the back and it is felt that he needs a rest after a long period of continuous cricket," explained Graveney.
"The National Academy programme this winter, however, does include a tour of Sri Lanka in the New Year and we will consider including Ian on that trip provided he makes a satisfactory recovery from injury." Two members of England's squad for the ICC Champions Trophy tournament in Sri Lanka, Rikki Clarke and Ian Blackwell, have been given further recognition with places at the Academy. Among the interesting new names are Lancashire fast bowler James Anderson, who has taken 40 wickets in his first season, and Bell's Warwickshire teammate Jim Troughton. Left-hander Troughton, the grandson of former Dr Who actor Patrick Troughton, has scored more than 1,000 runs this summer at an average of 55, including three centuries.
