Bears duo join Academy
Bell, Keith Piper and Troughton celebrate B&H Cup success

Warwickshire's young England hopes Jim Troughton and Ian Bell have both been passed fit to join up with the national Academy in Adelaide.

The two batsmen will take part in the forthcoming tour of Sri Lanka, but will not be joined by Bears team-mate Graham Wagg.

Wagg, 19, is still struggling with a back problem and will complete his rehabilitation at home.

Bell was called into England's senior touring party in New Zealand a year ago, shortly after his 20th birthday.

But a stress fracture to his back was blamed for a slump in form last season, and prevented him from taking his Academy place in September.

The highlight of his year was a stand of 84 with Troughton in Warwickshire's B&H Cup final win over Essex.

Troughton was in prolific form all summer, scoring 1,052 Championship runs at an average of over 55, including three centuries.

But the 23-year-old has since been slowed by shin splints.

Wagg made an immediate impact on his first-class debut, hitting a half-century against Somerset and taking four wickets with his left-arm pace.

No decision has yet been taken on who will replace him in the Academy squad.
