Road to the final - Warwickshire

Group stage

Beat Somerset by 94 runs via D/L

Nick Knight's explosive century led Warwickshire to a rain-hit victory over Somerset in their Benson & Hedges Cup opener at Edgbaston

The Bears piled up a total of 263 for six in just 41 overs, with Knight playing the major role with an unbeaten 126. The left-handed opener faced just 114 deliveries, with 16 fours and a six.

Lost to Gloucestershire by 149 runs

Gloucestershire continued their irresistible form in the B&H Cup with a facile 149-run win over Warwickshire at Bristol.

The 2000 champions knocked Warwickshire over for just 91 with Ian Harvey the chief destroyer.

The seamer rendered Warwickshire's run-chase forlorn in a six-over opening spell, taking the first four wickets for just 12 runs.

Matthew Windows and Chris Taylor were the stars of Gloucestershire's innings, putting the home side on top with a 144-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Lost to Worcestershire by three wickets

A gritty 43 from David Leatherdale took Worcestershire from disaster to a three-wicket win over Warwickshire in their local derby.

The Black Pears now look a good bet for quarter-final qualification after their second win in three matches. But they made far from light work of overhauling their hosts miserable 130.

Four wickets for Alan Richardson, including the scalps of Andy Bichel and Steve Rhodes within three balls, saw Worcestershire stumble to 73 for seven, with plenty of time remaining.

But Leatherdale was joined by fellow veteran Stuart Lampitt in a dogged, unbroken stand to bring up victory with nine balls to spare.

Warwickshire suffered a similar batting collapse losing their last seven wickets for 31 runs.

Aussie fast bowler Andy Bichel continued his excellent form, sparking the capitulation with two wickets, and taking total figures of four for 24.

Beat Northants by six wickets

Captain Mike Powell stole the show at Edgbaston with an unbeaten century as Warwickshire sealed victory in the final over against Northants.

Powell was at the crease from start to finish, hitting 11 boundaries in a knock that revived Warwickshire's flagging hopes of qualifying for the next round.

It was Powell's first one-day century, and his third-wicket partnership of 89 with Ian Bell was a highlight of the innings.

Northants opener Mike Hussey earlier hit 86 but a batting collapse negated the captain's superb knock.

Beat Glamorgan by 58 runs

Quarter-final place sealed.

Warwickshire completed victory over Glamorgan by 58 runs in their at Cardiff.

After making 261 for eight from their 50 overs, the visitors duly bowled out Glamorgan for just 203 in reply.

The chief destroyer was South African star Shaun Pollock recorded match-winning figures of 4 for 12 from nine overs, to go with a quickfire 64 with the bat.

Earlier, Warwickshire skipper Mike Powell added a half-century to the 101 he made against Northamptonshire as he and Pollock gave the Bears a superb start.

Quarter-final

Beat Sussex by four wickets

Ian Bell proved his England credentials with a mature innings in Warwickshire's victory over Sussex.

Coming to the wicket with his side six for two, Bell hit an unbeaten 85 from 133 deliveries, with just five boundaries, to lead the Bears home with eight balls remaining.

Sussex had their wicketkeeper-batsman Tim Ambrose to thank after his 87 led the hosts to a face-saving 196 for seven.

Semi-final

Beat Lancashire by one wicket

Warwickshire booked a date with Essex in the B&H Cup final after securing an utterly thrilling last-ball victory at Old Trafford.

Needing three runs for victory off the final delivery, Neil Carter, facing his first ball, swept Glenn Chapple to the boundary to steal a one-wicket win.

"Semi-final, one shot from Lord's and it worked. It's great," said Carter. "I've only faced one ball this season batting at 11 and did exactly the same, so I thought I'd try it again. I knew when I walked out what I was going to do."

In one fell sweep, Carter rendered Mark Chilton's superb century earlier in the day wasted, and Warwickshire will face Essex at Lord's on 22 June in a replay of the 1997 Natwest Trophy final, won by Essex.

Chilton was the star of Lancashire's innings. He was chanceless in a 146-ball knock, playing with control to ensure Lancashire would bat out their allotted overs.
