Pollock too much for Glamorgan

B&H Cup, Cardiff: Warwickshire 261-8 (50 overs) beat Glamorgan 203 (47 overs) by 58 runs

Warwickshire duly completed victory over Glamorgan by 58 runs in their B&H Cup clash at Cardiff.

After making 261 for eight from their 50 overs, the visitors duly bowled out Glamorgan for just 203 in reply.

The chief destroyer was South African star Shaun Pollock recorded match-winning figures of 4 for 12 from nine overs, to go with a quickfire 64 with the bat.

Glamorgan were always under the cosh after losing Keith Newell to Pollock's opening over.

Robert Croft managed just 13 batting at number three and with the captaincy team of Steve James and Adrian Dale departing cheaply, Glamorgan were out of the game on 52 for four.

David Hemp managed 36 against his former employers before being undone by Ashley Giles but the major resistance came from Michael Powell.

Powell scored 51, adding 64 in conjunction with Mark Wallace (39) for the sixth wicket.

Captain's innings

However, when Powell was run out, Glamorgan were well behind on 175 for seven and fittingly it was Pollock who finished them off bowling last man Owen Parkin with three overs remaining.

Earlier, Warwickshire skipper Mike Powell added a half-century to the 101 he made against Northamptonshire on Sunday as he and Pollock gave the Bears a superb start.

Despite losing Nick Knight for just two, Powell went on with Pollock, adding 109 for the second wicket.

Pollock took the lead bashing six fours in his 62, before he was caught by former Warwickshire man David Hemp off the bowling of Adrian Dale.

England hopeful Ian Bell could make only three, but Powell moved on to 74, adding a further 54 with youngster Jim Troughton for the fourth wicket, before edging behind off Robert Croft.

Powell was followed in quick succession by Trevor Penney, run out for one, and when Troughton went for 42 from 40 balls, Warwickshire started to wobble slightly.

However, the experienced bottom-order boosted the Bears, with Ashley Giles hitting 21 from 14 balls at the death.
