Arthur lands British belt
Steve Conway is on the receiving end of an Alex Arthur right hand
Conway is on the receiving end of an Arthur body blow
Edinburgh's 'Amazing' Alex Arthur lived up to his billing on Saturday to win the vacant British super-featherweight title with a fourth-round knock-out of Hartlepool's Steve Conway in Glasgow.

For Arthur the result provided a happy ending to a week which started with the late postponement of his scheduled bout against Glasgow's Willie Limond.

But the highly-rated 24-year-old did not look fazed and, after a cautious start, he began to force the Englishman back with his effective jab and dangerous right-hand punches over the top.

Conway, an 11th hour replacement, was not in Glasgow to make up the numbers and he threw some powerful punches of his own.

But Arthur started to wear his opponent down in the third round and, after trading crunching punches, he got through with two powerful rights and a left to leave Conway rocking.

The Hartlepool fighter came back at Arthur with some great counter punches, but Conway could not recover from a crushing left midway through the fourth round.

Earlier, British and Commonwealth light-welterweight title holder Junior Witter stayed on course for a clash with WBO champion Ricky Hatton next year with an impressive win over South African Lucky Samba.

The Bradford boxer had his opponent down twice in the second round before the referee saved him from any further punishment.
