Limond suffers more injury woe
Alex Arthur
Arthur was confident of taking the vacant title
Willie Limond has been forced to pull out of Saturday's British super-feather-weight contest with fellow Scot Alex Arthur.

Limond was due to take on Arthur for the vacant title on the Julio Pablo Chacon - Scott Harrison undercard at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow.

But the luckless 23-year-old sustained a recurrence of a perforated eardrum on Friday during what was to be his final sparring session for the bout.

The injury threatens to end one of the most promising careers in Scottish boxing.

Glaswegian Limond was originally sheduled to box Arthur for the championship on 10 June.

But he had to call off then when he suffered the same injury in similar conditions, again just a week before the fight was due to take place.

Now Limond has not only lost his place in the queue for a chance to win a Lonsdale belt, but he must also face up to the fact that this latest setback may signal the end of his ring ambitions.

His manager, Alex Morrison, is attempting to arrange an appointment with a specialist to see whether a cure can be found for the unbeaten fighter's recurring problem.

If not, he may find it impossible to be licensed to box again in the UK.

Promoter Katherine Morrison said: "Willie is devastated that this has happened again because he thought his luck had turned.

"While he was training in Tenerife he fell down 25 stairs which had been freshly hosed and when he came back to Glasgow he was involved in a car accident when somebody drove into the back of him."

The British Board of Boxing Control have been informed and are believed to be considering selecting another opponent to face Arthur for the Lonsdale Belt.
