Alex Arthur's emergence as a potentially world-class boxer has gone relatively unnoticed outside his native Scotland.

With Scott Harrison's continued rise also keeping Arthur's profile relatively low, the Edinburgh boxer played second fiddle to his fellow Scot on Saturday.

Arthur's preparations for British super-featherweight title fight had been disrupted, with Willie Limond pulling out for the second time.

Beating new opponent Steve Conway proved a relatively easy task, but Arthur knows he will have to beat better than if he is to fulfil his potential.

Thirteen wins out of 13 as a professional fighter speak for themselves.

His reputation in Scotland is sky-high. Both Jim Watt and Ken Buchanan rate him as a better boxer than Harrison.

Buchanan, a former world champion himself, has also said that he believes Arthur is as good as he was at the same stage of his career.

High praise indeed and the softly-spoken 24-year-old has every intention of proving Watt and Buchanan right.

Since his professional debut two years ago, Arthur has developed into Scotland's most talented prospect for some time.

A Commonwealth gold medallist in 1998, Arthur was named the Boxing Writers' Young Boxer of the year in 2001, following in Scott Harrison's footsteps.

Impressive wins over Hungarian Laszlo Bognar and Darius Snarski of Poland eventually brought a British title fight his way.

The East-West battle against Limond would have been excellent box office material, but it was not to be.

Arthur is supremely confident that he can overcome any obstacle thrown his way.

He admits that he sees the Lonsdale belt as a stepping stone to greater things - a world title is his goal.
