Winning run continues for Holmes
Kelly Holmes has been on winning form in recent weeks
Seville saw a third consecutive win for Kelly Homes
Kelly Holmes continued her excellent 2002 form with victory over 800 metres at the Seville Grand Prix, her third win in as many races.

The 2000 Olympic bronze medal-winner clocked two minutes 0.46 seconds, pipping Spain's Maite Martinez and Hungarian Judit Varga.

Holmes, who last Sunday ran her fastest 1500m in five years in Hengelo, said she continued to be encouraged by recent results.

"I felt really strong and would have liked to have gone under two minutes," she said. "But I'm happy - it was another encouraging run."

Fellow Briton Daniel Caines finished second on his first outdoor 400m outing of the summer, clocking 45.39 seconds.

Commonwealth Games hopeful Greg Haughton of Jamaica matched his winning performance in Seville last year, to pip Caine in 44.75secs.

Graffin boost

Andy Graffin beat John Mayock in the battle of the British runners over 1500m, but they were denied victory in the race by a Kenyan clean sweep of the top three.

World silver medallist Bernard Lagat won in 3:36.52 ahead of Laban Rotich and Benjamin Kipkurui.

Graffin was fifth, timed at 3:38.01, the fastest by a British runner this year.

Mayock, who intends to run 1500m at the Commonwealth Games and 5000m at the European Championships, was 10th in 3:42.58.

Graffin said afterwards: "It was a very slow, tactical race. Therefore the last lap was very fast - but I have to be happy at improving my time yet again."

Another British athlete happy over the same distance was Tom Mayo, who won the 1500m 'B' race in a time of 3:41.72.

Elsewhere, in Dortmund, Colin Jackson coasted to victory in his first appearance over 110m hurdles this season, winning in 13.41secs, beating German duo Mike Fenner and Jerome Crews.

Dwain Chambers, who races world record holder Maurice Greene and reigning Commonwealth champion Ato Boldon over 100m in Athens on Monday, warmed up by claiming a sprint double in Poland on Saturday.

He took the 100m in 10.16secs, beating fellow home runner Marlon Devonish, who recorded 10.32secs, and 40 minutes later Chambers clocked 20.55secs in winning the 200m, with Devonish again second.

Jade Johnson set a personal best in the long jump, emerging triumphant with a mark of 6.64 metres.
