| Monday, 3 June, 2002, 13:20 GMT 14:20 UK Jackson ready to grab treble Colin Jackson has recovered from a back injury Colin Jackson's preparations for the Commonwealth Games are back on track following an injury scare. The Welsh star, bidding for his third gold medal at the competition, strained his back during a weight training session and had to wind down training for three weeks. But now the 34-year-old is up and running and looking forward to the Manchester event. "It was worrying at first because this season I just have to stay injury-free," he said. Golden aim "But once we knew it wasn't serious it was frustrating. It set me back about three weeks in my training, and that's all. "It was the only thing that went wrong at the warm-weather training in Australia and I was pleased to win the national title there." He continues his build-up at the Welsh Championships in Newport on the weekend of June 8-9, but says Commonwealth success - and adding to his golds of 1990 and 1994 - is his priority. "Everything I am doing is geared towards the end of July. My focus is on Manchester." But the Newport event should see plenty of action to entertain the crowd, with the highlight likely to be the men's 200m which could feature Christian Malcolm, Doug Turner, Jamie Baulch and Iwan Thomas. | See also: 02 Jun 02 | Athletics 30 May 02 | Athletics 30 May 02 | Commonwealth Games 2002 Top Athletics stories now: Links to more Athletics stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
