| Thursday, 30 May, 2002, 15:12 GMT 16:12 UK Stars set for Golden League Hicham El Guerrouj will join the Golden League This year's Golden League will boast "the three most famous athletes in the world", according to the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). Hicham El Guerrouj of Morocco and American sprinter Marion Jones have confirmed that they will join Maurice Greene in contesting all seven meetings this season. "I am delighted to announce that this summer's edition of the Golden League will be graced by the three most famous athletes in the world," said IAAF President Lamine Diack. The winners of the Golden League series can collect as much as 50kg of gold. El Guerrouj is also planning to attack the world records for the mile at the opening Bislett Games meeting in Oslo on 28 June, and the 1500m the following Friday at the Stade de France. Jones will be looking to bounce back from losing her world 100m crown to Zhanna Pintusevich-Block last year by taking her third Golden League title.
