Davies fails to make point
Welsh youngster Chaz Davies in action
Chaz Davies' mistake cost him a deserved point
Welsh youngster Chaz Davies was left rueing a lapse in concentration in the MotoGP British Grand Prix on Sunday.

The 15-year-old from Knighton missed a gear change on the final circuit of the 26-lap race at Donington Park and was robbed of a single point by Italian Mirko Giansanti, who raced past to snatch 15th place.

Davies had been close to securing his first point of his debut 125cc Motorcycle World Championship season after moving his Matteoni Aprilia up from 24th on the grid to lie 15th with one lap to go.

But it was a salutary lesson for the British rider in what has been a difficult first season on the world championship scene.

"It could have been a memorable race for me because I could have gained my first championship point," admitted Davies.

But a missed gear change exiting a turn dropped Davies behind Giansanti and cost him the chance of that first point.

"I am angry and upset with myself," added Davies.

It is a shame because he was having a good race
Massimo Matteoni

"When I was leaving the curve I changed gear and made an error because I missed second gear and the bike lost speed, and there I lost my chance to gain my first point."

But Davies' team manager, former racer Massimo Matteoni, who previously guided the career of top racer Max Biaggi, is confident his young British charge will gain from the experience.

"Unfortunately Chaz lost his big chance to gain his first championship point," said Matteoni.

"It would have been a great chance for him as we are in Donington, a track that is not new for him, he is in his country with his friends and family to cheer around him.

"It is a shame because he was having a good race and was giving his best.

"I am sure that he will have another chance to gain championship points."

Davies will get his first chance to make up for his Donington disappointment when he takes part in the German GP at the Sachsenring on Sunday.
