In what many will regard as the twilight of her career, Chanda Rubin can hardly be described as a prospect for the future.

But after overcoming a series of career-threatening injuries, the 27-year-old looks like making up for lost time in 2003.

This year she bounced back into the top 10 for the first time since 1996 after reaching the quarter-finals in Indian Wells and the last four in Miami.

An even more promising indication of her resurgence came in May when she won the Spanish Open in Madrid - a week before the French Open.

It was her first title of the season and it came on one of her least favourite surfaces, clay.

This suggests there is more to come from the hard-hitting American as she transfers to grass at Wimbledon, where her best performance was reaching the fourth round last year.
