Quarter-finals (1997)

Kiefer burst onto the Wimbledon scene in some style, coasting to the quarter-finals on his first attempt as a 19-year-old in 1997.

Since then, he has only once come close to matching that feat - when he lost to Andre Agassi in the last 16.

This season, Kiefer has shown glimpses of the form that took him into the world's top five in 1999.

He reached back-to-back finals in Memphis and Scottsdale but has won just one Grand Slam match this season.

He was knocked out of the Australian Open in the first round by little-known Italian Filippo Volandri and then came unstuck against Roger Federer in the second round of the French Open.

Kiefer has the repertoire to win on grass. Should he maintain his composure mentally, he could yet cause a stir in the draw.
