Mark Philippoussis enjoyed a stunning, if somewhat surprising, Wimbledon run last year.

After a career-threatening back injury he had gone four months without winning a match following an appearance in the last 16 at the Australian Open.

But he bounced back in style by first reaching the final of Wimbledon, where he lost to Roger Federer, and then aiding Australia to Davis Cup victory.

However he has lacked that form in 2004, most recently losing at Queen's.

Former coach Peter McNamara hinted that Philippoussis' poor form this year might be down to the media attention surrounding his relationship with Australian singer and former soap star Delta Goodrem.

But after last year's grass-court efforts, as well as the title he won in Shanghai, the "Scud" is all too aware of what he is capable of.

The main question marks over him and his Wimbledon chances remain his fragile fitness and his state of mind.
