Carlos Moya dreads the grass-court part of the season when his preferred clay-court tournaments have dried up.

So much so, in fact, that he opted out of last season's event.

This year to date, Moya has been in impressive form, continuing to defy the odds following an earlier career-threatening back injury.

Already this year he has won in Chennai and Acapulco, but more importantly took the title at the Rome Masters and reached a total of five finals.

He began 2004 by winning the title in Chennai and reaching the final in Sydney before an ankle injury forced him out of the Australian Open.

But he bounced back on clay, reaching the final in Buenos Aires and winning the tournament in Acapulco.

Victory at the Rome Masters confirmed his status as a favourite to lift the French Open trophy for a second time but there he could only muster a place in the quarter-finals.
