Watson crashes out in last eight in Shrewsbury

Guernsey's Heather Watson has lost to eighth seed Eva Birnerova in the quarter-finals of the Aegon GB Pro-Series in Shrewsbury.

Watson, 18, went down by two sets to one to the Czech Republic's Birnerova, who at 211 is ranked 23 places above her in the women's singles.

After losing the first set 4-6, Watson took the second 6-1, before Birnerova rallied to take the third 6-4.

Fellow Brit Naomi Broady is also out, going down 6-2 6-4 to Vesna Manasieva.

Watson had previously beaten second seed Sabine Lisicki.
