Guernsey's Heather Watson lost to world number 86 Alla Kudryatseva in the Aegon Classic first round on Monday. The 18-year-old was beaten 6-4 6-3 by her Russian opponent, who is 260 places above her in the world rankings, at the Edgbaston Priory Club in Birmingham. Watson had received a wildcard for the competition, which is seen as a major warm up event for Wimbledon. The Russian, who turned professional in 2005, reached second round of this year's Australian Open. World 346 Watson recently became a full-time player after graduating from the Pendleton School in Florida.
