Watson was the first British girl to win the US Junior Open

Guernsey's Heather Watson has broken into the top 600 of the women's world senior tennis rankings.

The US Junior Open champion, 17, is now ranked 588 - under four months after breaking into the senior rankings.

Her father Ian said: "We sat down last November and she wanted to get a senior ranking and into the top 600 (in 2009).

"She's achieved that. Her target on the junior circuit was to get in the top 20. She's beat that by a mile, because she's number three."

Watson is ranked 593 in senior doubles and remains third in the International Tennis Federation junior rankings.
