Watson was delighted to take the singles gold |
Guernsey tennis player Heather Watson beat India's Kyra Shroff in the final at the Commonwealth Youth Games to secure the gold medal. Watson took less than an hour to win 6-1, 6-2 in the girls singles final in Pune, India on Saturday. The match, which was played in front of 3,500 spectators, was also broadcast on Indian television. Watson told the BBC: "I'm so happy to have won. It is such as honour to win in front of this crowd." The only Channel Islands medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games put Guernsey into 19th place in the medal table ahead of Northern Ireland and Pakistan.
