Defeat to Benjamin Becker at the US Open brought Andre Agassi's glittering career to an end after 20 years, 60 ATP titles and eight Grand Slams.
Part of a golden generation of American players, including Pete Sampras, Jim Courier and Michael Chang, Agassi outshone them all in terms of star quality. "Coming from Las Vegas, Andre came from the school of giving the people what they want," said Courier. "He understands that innately. He just knew something about pleasing crowds that we didn't."
