Andre Agassi's career in pictures
After a thrashing by Henri Leconte in 1987, Agassi did not bother to turn up at Wimbledon for the next three years. "I didn't have any desire to be on the grass, I didn't feel it was tennis," he explained.
In 1991, he had a change of heart. The tabloid media was immediately abuzz with rumours of what he would wear and Agassi dazzled an expectant crowd by striding onto Centre Court dressed in pristine white from head to toe, including trademark cycling shorts.
That was the beginning of an unlikely love affair which hit a peak a year later when he outgunned Boris Becker, John McEnroe and then Goran Ivanisevic to lift his first Grand Slam trophy.
