Hewitt was not best pleased in the post-match press conference

Hewitt takes on the press

A couple of tennis journalists got a taste of Lleyton Hewitt's famous fighting spirit at his post-match press conference on Wednesday.

One of the assembled hacks dared argue that the Australian had been, well, a little below par this season.

The world number one fixed him with a glare and said: "I only played two clay court tournaments and before that I won the titles at Indian Wells and Scottsdale, so I don't think it's been such a terrible year mate."

The journalist pleaded: "It's not what I'm saying, just what the experts are saying." But Hewitt was having none of it.

"Well there are some ordinary experts out there," he angrily countered.

Another journalist tried to mediate by saying that expectations were simply greater for the Wimbledon champion now.

But the Australian was in no mood to be appeased.

"Well whoopee doo dah, what do you want me to do about it mate?"

Boggy needs a coach

Alex Bogdanovic
Alex Bogdanovic has impressed over the last week
Plenty of people who know their tennis are saying Alex Bogdanovic has what it takes to succeed, but one thing he does not have is a coach.

The 19-year-old was not all that disappointed to have lost his second-round match to Anthony Dupuis, having played well and gone nose-to-nose with the experienced Frenchman for more than two-and-a-half hours.

But having broken away from the Lawn Tennis Association's coaching programme last year, Bogdanovic works with Peter Fleming, one-time doubles partner of John McEnroe who now brings a touch of the lounge lizard to the TV pundits chair.

But Fleming has a family and other commitments, leaving Bogdanovic to travel the globe in search of fame on his own.

He says he is looking for the right coach to take him to the next level, but he probably needs to find him soon.

Miss of the day

Dupuis made an early bid for miss of the tournament during the epic tussle on Court One.

At match point in the deciding tie-break the Frenchman hit a searing forehand that his opponent could only weakly lob back.

Dupuis marched forward to dispatch the ball high into the stands, but after waiting for what seemed like an eternity for it to bounce inside the service box, struck it into the middle of the net.

Cue loud cheers from Boggy's legion of courtside fans.

Unfortunately the Brit then conspired to horribly mishit a smash of his own and so concede the match.

Krajicek thrills the crowds

During a hilariously dull match between Richard Krajicek and Jan Vacek, about the only thing of interest to happen in the first set came after the first game, when the players changed ends.

These days the poor souls don't get a sit-down after their 30 seconds of exertion and are forced to walk straight round to the other end and get on with the action.

Krajicek picked a bottle of water out of the cooler, threw it on his bag, and continued on his journey to the other end.

What was he thinking? That it would be all gone by the next changeover? That if it was too cold he might be forced into an untimely bathroom break?

As we said, it was a dull match.
