Roddick claimed his first title on grass in style Photos from the final

The American, 20, fired down countless service winners to put the French eighth seed under relentless pressure.

Roddick broke once in the middle of the first and at the start of the second set to put the result beyond doubt.

A further break came to close out the match and the third seed won 6-3 6-3 in exactly one hour.

It was Roddick's first title on grass and winning the traditional warm-up for Wimbledon means he is sure to be one of the favourites at the All England club.

"I didn't have the easiest draw here but I couldn't be happier right now," Roddick said after his victory.

"It's humbling to be in the same category as some of the great champions, anyone who's anyone has won here.

"I had a good week and now I'll relax before trying to do it all over again at Wimbledon."

Grosjean admitted he had been unable to cope with Roddick's venomous serve after his straight-sets defeat.

The Frenchman did not break in the entire match and Roddick fired down one 147mph delivery.

"He served so big and it was tough for me to return," said the 25-year-old Frenchman.

"But it wasn't just his serve - he did really well with his forehands as well.
