Roddick beat Agassi for the first time in his career |
Andy Roddick won America's generation game to see off Andre Agassi and reach the final for the first time.
Roddick came through 6-1 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (8-6) for his first win over Agassi in five attempts.
He started brilliantly, breaking in Agassi's first service game and again to establish a 5-1 lead.
The first set was over in 20 minutes but Agassi hung in there and took the second set on the tie-break.
A questionable line call led to Roddick dropping serve at 2-2 in the decider, but he broke back and went on to edge the match in another thrilling tie-break.

And Roddick equalled the fastest ever recorded serve, set by Greg Rusedski at Indian Wells in 1998, of 149mph.
"I did not even notice that and to be honest the only stat I am interested in is how many games I have won," he said.
"I played a great first set but in the end I admit I was lucky to win it."
Agassi admitted he had not deserved to win the match.
"I was pretty fortunate to have a chance of winning because of the way he was serving and the way I was striking the ball," he said.
"I felt I deserved to lose the match, although I did have some chances.
"Yet this week has been great preparation for Wimbledon for me. Facing a serve like Andy's is just what I need."
