Will Goran be handing out the strawberries at Wimbledon?
Goran's Wimbledon worries

Tennis fans will remember Goran Ivanisevic's comments about the two, or possibly three, Gorans as he made his way to the Wimbledon title two years ago.

He was in good form after his defeat by Jan Vacek but revealed that shoulder and elbow problems could keep him away from SW19 for a second year, meaning he has not played there since winning the title against Pat Rafter in 2001.

He said: "If I had to play the last match of my career, I would like it to be at Wimbledon. But I do not want to go on court and crawl like a pig.

"If I cannot serve on grass there is nothing I can do. Maybe I can help cut the grass or serve some strawberries.

"Coming to London and not playing Wimbledon would be like going to Rome and not seeing the Pope. If I can't play, maybe I will walk home."

Brit's mixed emotions

Alex Bogdanovic, the bright new hope of British tennis, was a strange combination of weariness and elation as he wandered round Queen's Club on Monday.

The 19-year-old looked understandably tired after losing the final of the Surbiton Trophy and the first round of the new Wimbledon wild card play-offs on Sunday.

But he also looked very cheerful.

"The matches have given me a lot of confidence and I still hope to get through to Wimbledon in the qualifiers next week," he explained to this website.

"I feel the last week could be a turning point and I'm looking to continue to do well at Queen's."

Scud misfires

In a sport where almost every line call is pored over by experts armed with the latest technology, one serve by Mark Philippoussis in his match against Richard Krajicek did not quite have the players calling for the referee.

At a vital point in the first set tie-break, the Australian caught a second serve with the edge of his racquet.

The ball did not just miss the box...or even the court itself.

It flew over Krajicek's head, past the officials at the back of the court and into the crowd without so much as a bounce.

They say the difference between success and failure in tennis can be measured in fractions of inches, so it's perhaps fitting that it presented Krajicek with a set point.

The Dutchman duly converted it with a rather more accurate serve of his own and went on to win the match.

Setting the record straight

Rumours of Greg Rusedski's demise have been greatly exaggerated, the British number two said after his first-round win over Robby Ginepri.

The big-serving left-hander suffered his first big injury, ankle ligament damage, at Queen's five years ago.

He's had his ups and downs since then, but things have got slowly worse over the last two years and is only now seriously playing again after a nine-month break.

He said: "I read in the papers that I was about to retire. That came as a surprise. I have no plans for that I still feel I have a lot of tennis left in me.

"I take Andre Agassi as my inspiration. He was down to the 140s in the rankings and came back from that. I think I have a few Wimbledon's left in me yet."

'Wayno' falls

Australian Wayne Arthurs could have been forgiven for thinking he was playing at home when he took on Frenchman Anthony Depuis on Court One.

There was a large Aussie flag at the side of the court, constant cries of "c'mon Wayno" and screams of "ripper" when the number nine seed struck one of his many aces.

But the vociferous support could not prevent Arthurs being the first seed to exit this year's tournament.
