Friday's WTA round-up

Paris Indoor Open

Second seed Daniela Hantuchova made a surprise exit from the Paris Indoor Open when she lost in the quarter-finals to Russia's Elena Dementieva.

Unseeded Dementieva came away a 7-5 6-3 winner in just over 90 minutes - her best performance in four appearances at the Pierre de Coubertin stadium.

She now meets the winner of the tie between third seed Amelie Mauresmo of France or Spaniard Magui Serna for a place in just her fourth career final.

Hantuchova trailed from the outset, dropping her first two service games as her opponent went on to clinch the first set 7-5.

Dementieva broke early in the second set to rush to a 3-0 lead and held firm despite losing her service game when closing out the match at 5-2.

Fourth seed Elena Dokic also crashed out of the Paris event at the hands of Greece's Eleni Daniilidou 6-1, 6-3.

The 20-year-old stunned Dokic with her powerful strokes and swept to the first set 6-1.

Dokic was on the verge of a comeback in the second as she broke the the eighth seed's serve when she was down 4-2.

Daniilidou now faces top seed Serena Williams, who coasted past Slovakia's Janette Husarova 6-3 6-3.

Indian Open

Second seed Thai Tamarine Tanasugarn reached the final in Hyderabad with a 7-5 6-4 win over Italy's Flavia Pennetta.

The 25-year-old, chasing her maiden WTA Tour crown, will meet fifth seed Iroda Tulyaganova of Uzbekistan in the final.

Tulyaganova came from behind to beat Japan's Akiko Morigami 2-6 6-3 6-2.

"It was a tough match, but I changed my strategy in the second set," Tulyaganova said.

"The longer I stayed on court, the more confident I grew."

Tamarine lost to Tulyaganova the last time they met in the final of the 2002 Asian Games.
