| Sunday, 6 October, 2002, 10:10 GMT 11:10 UK Carlsen conquers Norman ![]() Carlsen capitalised on his chances Dane Kenneth Carlsen overcame Swedish qualifier Magnus Norman to claim the Japan Open and win his second tour title. The 29-year-old Carlsen won 7-6 6-3 to prove he has fully recovered from a shoulder injury. His booming first serve lay the foundations for the victory, but he was helped by some errors from Norman at crucial times. "I was a bit lucky to have pulled it out," Carlsen said. Norman had two break points in the final game but made three errors to hand the game and the match to Carlsen. "I didn't take my opportunities," Norman said. "My head was not 110% there as it has to be in a final," added Norman, who was once number two in the world. Carlsen had to sit out for 19 months following two operations on his shoulder in 2000. |
