Jones has missed all of Worcester's pre-season training so far
Worcester Warriors fly-half Matthew Jones says he will miss the first month of the Guinness Premiership campaign as he tries to recover from injury.
Jones told BBC Hereford & Worcester he must bide his time after breaking a bone in his foot twice last season.
"They are being really careful this time as I have done it once before and it is a little bone," he said.
"It's a nuisance of an injury as the blood supply to the feet is the worst so that is why it takes a bit longer."
Jones has endured a number of injuries in his career and knows he will have to be patient despite Warriors' shortage of cover for the number 10 position.
The former Ospreys man had made the fly-half berth his own last season before picking up the injury in November and then repeating it in the derby win against Gloucester at Kingsholm on 21 April.
Jones now thinks he could miss at least the first month of the campaign.
I've missed the pre-season, which is killing me

"I'd hope for the bone to be healed for the start of the season but I don't think the plan is for me to just start running straight away," he said.
"We have got to build it up as I am on crutches with a boot at the moment.
"Perhaps once it has healed it will be a case of walking with the boot on for a week, and then walking normally without the boot.
"Then it will be on jogging for a week and then perhaps build it up in the fourth week," he added.
Jones is due to see the specialists again in three weeks for further X-rays after which he will have a clearer idea as to how his rehabilitation is progressing.
"I've missed the pre-season now which is killing me as I have seen all the boys running," he said.
"I'm still doing what I can as I am swimming, boxing and rowing as well as my upper-body weights.
"But I just want to be out there running with the rest of them."
