Jones faces stiff competition for the number 10 shirt |
One-cap Wales fly-half Matthew Jones has joined Worcester Warriors, signing a two-year deal at Sixways Stadium. The 24-year-old former Ospreys star has played for Moseley and London Welsh this season after making his comeback from a serious knee ligament injury. Worcester director of rugby Mike Ruddock gave Jones his only Welsh cap in 2005. "It's a great opportunity at Warriors and one I intend to take with both hands," said Jones. | I have no doubt that he can perform to the same level that made me pick him for the full Wales team Director of rugby Mike Ruddock | "I can't wait to play in the English top-flight, to play with the best players in the world and show what I am about. I can't wait for it to start." The Welshman will compete with Loki Crichton and Joe Carlisle for the fly-half spot. Ruddock said: "Matthew is a quality player who caught my eye when I was national coach at Wales. "He has worked his way back from this injury and I have no doubt that he can perform to the same level that made me pick him for the full Wales team." While Jones moves in, it looks as if lock Tim Collier will be moving out of Sixways. Collier has another year of his contract to run at Worcester, but it is thought he wants first-team rugby, and his chances at Worcester are limited. He missed much of last season following knee surgery but returned to captain the Warriors 'A' side and played at Launceston on loan.
