Rico Gear has scored three tries in two games since returning from injury |
Worcester Warriors director of rugby Mike Ruddock is pleased with his side's form - and Rico Gear in particular. The All Black winger has scored three tries in Warriors' opening two European Challenge Cup wins, putting 50-plus points on Petrarca and Bucuresti. And Ruddock told BBC Hereford and Worcester that Gear is on his way back. "You need a few games under your belt," said Ruddock. "There were glimpses of the way he can play. And he took his tries well again." Prior to the start of the European Challenge Cup campaign, 30-year-old, 19-times capped Gear had only played in one Warriors game this term, after suffering an Achilles injury in pre-season. Ruddock says the way his side have approached the two games, despite a string of injuries, has been extemporarily. They have beaten Petrarca (55-6) and Bucuresti (53-17)comprehensively. And Ruddock was impressed with the young stars in the squad in Romania. "Jordan Page got on for his senior debut ," he said. "And Matt Cox, Charlie Fellows, Graham Kitchener and all the youngsters coming through and getting European experience is very good. Jordan Page, debut in Bucharest |
"We felt it would be physical so we played an up-tempo game, and got three tries in the first half. "And I can assure everyone that it was a harder afternoon's work than the score might suggest. "They are a determined bunch, they never gave up and it got a bit scrappy when it came to unopposed scrums. But, overall, I thought it was a very good performance." Warriors' next game is against the Ospreys in Swansea on Sunday (1505 GMT). And there will be full commentary on the match on BBC Hereford and Worcester, on 104 fm and on line.
