Gear set to see out Warriors deal

Rico Gear
Gear is contracted to stay at Sixways until the end of next season

Worcester Warriors All Black winger Rico Gear looks set to stay at Sixways until the end of his contract.

Gear has a clause in his deal to say he can leave at the end of this season if he is not happy at the club.

But Warriors director of rugby Mike Ruddock told BBC Hereford & Worcester he was not aware Gear wanted to leave.

"He is keen to stay so I don't think he'll be exercising that option. I would expect him to see out his three-year contract," he said.

Gear is set to start against Bucuresti on Sunday after making only his second appearance of the season in Italy last Saturday.

"He did OK in Italy. He was a little bit rusty, but he scored a nice try and contributed well for our first try," Ruddock added.

Full-back Chris Latham will be rested for the trip to Romania.

Chris Pennell would have been a natural replacement for the Australia international but Ruddock says he may not play due to a leg injury, so Loki Crighton could be drafted in the full-back berth.

James Collins, who has missed the last month due to a hip injury, could also return to the Warriors back row.

There will be full commentary on the game from Bucharest on BBC Hereford & Worcester on Sunday from 1430 BST.
