Evesham United manager Paul West was proud of his team for giving Torquay United a run for their money in Saturday's Cup first round defeat.
Evesham lost 2-0 at Plainmoor but West told BBC Hereford and Worcester that it was a great day for the club.
Danny Scheppel missed a spot kick that would have put the Robins level.
"The game's probably pivoted on the penalty," said West. "We didn't score when we had the opportunity. But the lads did everything we asked of them."
And West insisted there was no blame on the player.
"Danny was the hero last week," he said. "Unfortunately today it wasn't to be, but he's had the courage to go and take it.
"But are all together when we win and we are together when we lose.
"He's disappointed. We all are, but their manager has come up to me and said we are the best team they have seen down here this season.
"The crowd have been magnificent , it's been a real credit to them, it was a bit disappointing we didn't give them something to really cheer about."
Evesham must now come down to earth after their Cup heroics with a league game at Stourbridge on Tuesday night (11 November, 1945 GMT).
